The Ghostlord

After finishing the battle in Rhest we took up our offer from the Tiri Kitor elves and formed an alliance with them. Sellyria Starsinger held her word and even offered us the giant owls for us to lend during the next few weeks to come in order to aid our mission.

Off we went to Brindol with the good news that Tiri Kitor had joined the alliance and would send not only archers, but Sellyria and the other big names would also come and help. This will for sure aid us when the Red Hand of Doom closes in.

In Brindol preparations were well under way, and we killed off some false rumors, one of them being Jarmath was being drugged and was going to be pushed from power. We dont know this for a fact, but its most likely false. So, back we were with a hidden treasure from the Rhest that we didnt know what to do with, the phylactery. After many discussions and some beers in the pubs we decided to search for the long lost Ghostlord down in south.

We really knew very little about this Ghostlord, we knew that a spot on the map was marked with the name but not much more than that. Some rumours had been picked up that it was a tale about an old druid that dissapeared long ago. Who other than the druids in the forest near Witch Cross could help confirm this to us? Off we went. The rumours had in deed been true, the story about a lion cult sounded very scary. We were given a direction and a likely position of his whereabouts, which happend to be where the mark on the map was, near a deserted outpost.

As we reached the little outpost where plains turned in to hills and moutains, we found the way to the giant lion stattue with some divine help. When we approached the entrance to the giant stattue, we were ambushed by a huge Varanthian. This was indeed a powerful enemy, as it swallowed one of our companions alive. His fortune was then sealed, but another fierce fighter in the group did shish kebab of him after a round or two.

When the first encounter was over, we decided to enter through a balcony high up in the air with the help of our owls. Then all of a sudden thunders and clouds gathered upon us, and Anor was hit suddenly by a thunderbolt of some sort. Morbald answered with a well placed Maximized Fireball and dead bodies fell over the edge. In we went and after the so called Ghostlord. Who was he and what was his intentions?

As we continued exploring the lion statue we discovered several unpleasant things like torture chambers and Tiamat holy statues. It looked like the Red Hand of Doom had been here for quite some time. After searching the complex for some time we found a more or less hidden room with a pulsating pool in the middle.

Suddenly a shadow came out from one of the alcoves and to our deepest horrors it was a... LICH! This was the person that we came to meet. That we had to get information from that we were missing. What role did he play in this whole mess?

The Ghostlord approached us quickly, but did not attack as we stood fast. "How dare you enter the realms of the Ghostlord" he began. We froze for a second before we greeted the Ghostlord in a polite manner and started what would become a very very tense negotiation. It turned out that the Ghostlord had been robbed of his phylactery and was forced to help the Red Hand of Doom with his undead legions. He promised in return of his phylactery that he would not help the Red Hand of Doom and would kill any remaining Red Hand agents in his complex.

The meeting ended with us giving the Ghostlord his phylactery, trusting in that he would not help the Red Hand of Doom and would let us out alive. A sudden shivering feeling dropped down our necks when we heard the Ghostlord saying... "Fools! Do you think i will let you live? You will all die in here!".

Again we felt the cold shivering feeling, this time going all the way down our spine. We had no choice but to run back the way we came leaving the Ghostlord to do whatever he wanted to do. When we came back to the entrance room, we were ambushed. Monks with spiked chains, and someone fireing arrows at us. Just before the ambush we heard how the Ghostlord was coming our way too. This started to become a very bad situation indeed.

Breaking away from the ambush we decided to hide in the fog that almost completely filled the entrance room while the Ghostlord hopefully could deal with the other "guests". Suddenly the fog dissapeared and the Ghostlord stood there in the middle of the room, gazing around after flesh to eat.

Geth Helder had been badly wounded by the monks in the ambush so Eluard had to cast some healing spells on him, which turned out to be very fatal. The positive energy bursts that erupted at the time of the spell caused the Ghostlord to act instantly. A flamestrike thundered down and hit Eluard hard. "Worthless priest! I will deal with you later!" he said as he continued up the stair to the place where we had been ambushed. We didnt understand the reason for the attack and decided to go through the secret door in the room that we hadnt explore yet.

As we entered the corridor some kind of undead lions attacked us. Eluard used his divine power to turn the beast before it caused us more problem. Baam! Another flamestrike came hauling down. This time, hitting Geth. At that point we finally realized that it was the positive energy that caused the Ghostlord to react.

Being chased by the clock and the Ghostlord we decided to full out run down the corridor no matter what. Dead end. The corridor ended with solid stone. Since the group didnt have a rogue we found ourselfs in a dire situation. We basically had to choose between spending some minutes searching for a hidden door, that might not exist, or to turn back and after the Ghostlord.

The smart move to put water on the floor to see if any bubbles would appear or if the water would dissapear through the wall proved that there was a hidden door there somewhere. We decided to try to force the wall up by pushing on all surfaces. After a minute or two a small crack opened and we could see the light.

We came out of the complex and the storm was still active outside. Eluard again used his divine power, this time looking carefully after the Ghostlord before casting the spell, to get astral deva wings so he could fly away and get the giant owls. After being fetched we left the Ghostlords complex and with mixed emotions wether our actions was right or wrong...
