The Last Stand - Grand Final

Lord Jarmaath called on the telepatic link to inform us that the last line of defence were going to be at the cathedral and that we had to hurry back. The enemies had covered a lot of ground and were now within reach of the holy sanctum of the city.

Outside the cathedral Captain Lars Ulverth, Immerstal the Red and Tredora Goldenbrow had gathered up to meet up the forces of evil together with the rest of us. Rendawyth, Wilmar, Clifford, Xaddax, Wo-Fei and Mystofos were ready.

In the middle of the hoards of evil we spotted their leader, Wyrmlord Hravek Kharn. When he came closer he stopped suddenly as did the hoard. He started speaking.

“You have this last chance to surrender, human dogs. If not, your blood will be drunken by my army before the night is over.”

We all screamed back “Long Live Brindol!” and all hell broke lose. To our suprise the wyrmlord charged forward together with his personal guards, 2 Hill Giants and 4 big Ogres. To my own satisfaction he picked my character, Rendawyth, as target. I knew immediately that this was in our favour since the enemy had (as always) a numerous advantage so I got a chance to take out the leader in the first rounds.

Kharn's charge ended with a miss while one of his personal guards followed him and tried to flank me. This was not so smart since it triggered an attack of opportunity and luckily I scored a crit that fell him immediately. On the following round Rendawyth activated his Boots of Speed and used one of his Smite Evil attacks. 3 out of 3 were threats, 1 confirmed. Total damage dealt: 100. Kharn's head dropped to the ground and things looked a lot better.

Unfortunately things looked much worse already in the next round when Miha Serani, Ulwai Stormcaller and Wyrmlord Nurklenak unleashed their spells from afar. Lars Ulverth and Immerstal were killed instantly by the fierce fireballs. As that wasnt enough, 2 Hill Giants stormed up to the gates and dealt a heavy crushing blow to Tredora Goldenbrow who dropped like a rock to the ground.

With Clifford on the cathedral roof we had a good sniper who could assist in taking down the most crucial enemies. Mystofos, who had come to aid the heroes, also proved very important with his powerful summoning spells. Dire Wolfs ripped the enemies apart and dealt severe damage to the foot soldiers.

The enemy spellcasters were still alive and launching volley after volley at us and our resources were dropping rapidly. The one that felt it most was the brave paladin of Dauth - Willmar. In a headlong charge towards Wyrmlord Nurklenak he did a last desperate attempt to stop the arcane magic from landing on the steps to the cathedral. Unluckily, he missed direly.

Rendawyth noticed Willmar's charge and followed his tracks. Another blow hit us when Miha Serani took mental control of Clifford who started firing arrows on Willmar. A combination of friendly fire from Clifford and yet a few more fireballs from Miha was too much for Willmar who died instantly.

Mystofos had managed to summon more animals to our aid and they were all up Ulwai's alley surrounding her. When Ulwai took the final punishment for her crimes and died the forces of evil no longer able to occupy the cathedral, they decided to retreat.

A very tough battle ended in Victory! Unfortunately, Willmar died in the last rounds but he will be remembered for his sincere and outmost courage.

This was the day when the enemy took the biggest blow so far, the tides changed. This was the day when the heroes of the valley took the offence in their own hands and began their journey to the source of evil - The Fane of Tiamat.

Brindol still stands

A might red dragon by the name of Abithriax came flying across the plains towards the city of Brindol. The wyrm started setting buildings on fire and causing panic among the citizens. We were called in to meet this new threat. Without any arcane power we had to rely on Anor's arrows to deal the damage since Abithriax was airborn all the time.

The dragon knew this fact too so after a few volleys of fire on us he dove down to Anor just to grab his bow and flying off in the sunset. The fires in the buildings grew in intensity and we failed in stopping them. Anor's bow, the wyrmlord and dragon bane, was now nowhere to be seen. A message on the telepatic link called us to our next destination, Dawns Way.

The siege of the city of Brindol took many lives, mostly allies. The brave Tiri Kitor elves fought side by side with their newly won allies in a battle that was going to prove too tough. The dwarven mercenaries from Hammerfist Holds proved very useful to say the least, with their specialized combat tactics, but it wasnt enough.

Wave after wave of spawn came rushing in, first the green sneaks. These beasts were very dangerous in large amounts but luckily Morbald ended their lives quick and painlessly with a mazimized fireball.

Next up was several other types of spawns to name a few Redspawn Firebelcher, Whitespawn Berserker and a Redspawn Arcaniss. This was going to be a tougher challenge than the first wave, ending with the death of one of the players - Belak (RIP).

Things look dire indeed, but another wave was on the way - Bluespawn Thunderlizards. These critters fired off arcs of lightning and took down Fellguard and Snowmantle immediately. Snowmantle, being the main healer for the allies, was a big loss. Dark clouds covered the sky now. The young and brave paladin Wilmar of Dauth called for a retreat and the withdrawal from the streets had begun.

The enemy forces were too strong here. A well fought battle ended with the heroes retreating up towards the hill to hold the last line of defence.
